Description
Markvart Kadarka is a light bodied, fruity, floral dry red wine from the Szekszard Wine region.
Winemaker Janos Markvart Jnr only makes this Kadarka in the best vintages. The grapes for this wine are grown on two vineyards, with nearly 100 year-old vines on. Both vineyards, Sauli Valley and the Right Hermit have specifically trained bush-vines that sit on steep slopes, and are incredibly labour intensive to care for. These two plantations are also Hungary’s largest of such plots that still actively produce grapes for wine.
The grape bunches are hand picked and sorted and only the best berries are used for this wine. This is followed by a skin-contact fermentation, then tank ageing. Kadarka is famous for its tanning structure being quite different from any other red grape wines. Markvart Kadarka is a light red coloured, almost transparent classy wine, with notes of rosehips and red fruits on the nose. On the palate, this Kadarka is juicy and fruity with red berries, red cherries, pomegranate, spices and some herbs. The very light tannins of this Kadarka, result in a very smooth and juicy wine.
Markvart Kadarka pairs nicely with pork stews, chorizo pasta dishes, grilled Mediterranean vegetables, or pizza.
