Bulls Blood / Bikavér Classicus is an excellent, premium dry red wine from Thummerer Winery, in Eger. A full bodied, high prestige wine, only made in the best vintages. Well balanced acidity, hints of vanilla, black cherry, spice, and oak.
Bulls Blood (Bikaver) is the most popular wine of the Eger wine region. Bulls Blood has also seen ever increasing popularity in Europe over the last decade.
There are very strict rules to qualify for the “Bulls Blood” community brand. These regulations also vary slightly depending on the region it is produced in. Szekszárd and Eger are the only two regions where Bulls Blood can be made. According to the regulations, for a Bulls Blood from Eger, Kékfrankos must dominate – amongst other local varieties such as Kadarka. However, no other variety can be over 50% in the blend. Varieties include: Kékfrankos, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Kadarka, Merlot & Syrah.
This wine has been barrel aged for 12 months in traditional Hungarian oak. This was followed by a minimum of 6 months ageing in bottles. The length of bottle ageing is also a prerequisite of a premium Bulls Blood cuvee.
Ruby in colour, rich and spicy, with pleasant tannins. Aromas of dark fruits on the nose, complemented by the wonderful fragrances of the wooden barrel. This wine is a beautiful example of Classicus Bulls Blood from Eger.
It pairs beautifully with traditionally spicy pork, lamb, venison and cabbage dishes.
