Description
Benedek Cserszegi Fűszeres is a highly aromatic, easy drinking dry white wine from Mátra.
Although the origin of this grape is from the Lake Balaton, there are a many norther Hungarian wine regions that produce this variety with great success. The rolling hills of Mátra, in northern Hungary is one of these. The surrounding mountains in this region protect the vineyards from harsh winds, whilst the volcanic soil ensures ideal drainage, so the acidity is also well preserved.
The name Cserszegi Fűszeres refers to the style of the wine, as it is often called ‘spiced wine’ (fűszeres bor). This variety is closely related to another highly aromatic varietal: Israi Oliver and it actually belongs to the famously perfumed Traminer family. Such an easy drinking wine, coupled with a fantastic value, make Cserszegi Fűszeres a very popular choice amongst Hungarians.
We are met with intensive floral aromas immediately upon pouring the wine into the glass, with overflowing tropical fruits and elderberry. Creamy on the palate, with additional notes of nectarine, green apples, lime peel, and pleasant acidity. A very refreshing wine experience, and a great choice for a friendly get together especially on a summer night.
Benedek Cserszegi Fűszeres is a perfect aperitif, or but recommended to consume with medium spiced dishes such as Vietnamese vermicelli bowls, pasta with ricotta and lemon, chicken in a creamy garlic sauce, seasoned goat cheese, or seafood like calamari.
