Description
Babits Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos is a forever winner of national and international wine competitions. This beautifully aged Tokaji Aszu can speak for itself. It has everything that represents the Tokaj Hegyalja wine region.
Babits Winery used Furmint & Harslevelu (Linden leaf) varieties for their Tokaji Aszu. They first wait for specific climatic conditions. For the best results, they need regular autumn morning dew, balanced out with plenty of drying breeze. They then let botrytis cinerea to work its magic on the vines. They then carefully hand harvest the aszu berries, typically around October.
Hand Selected Tokaji Aszu
Hand harvesting really cannot be emphasised enough. It is a very labor intensive process, under tough circumstances. The weather is cold by October, almost near freezing conditions. Workers need to stand on a fairly steep slope, which they need to climb up to first of course.
The berries are selected by hand one by one by specific criteria. They do this in a special process, which is then repeated a number of times. An experienced picker can collect approximately 6 – 8 kg of Aszu berries in a day.
Drops of juice of the aszu berries may freeze on their hands. It really is hard work, and takes a lot of care. It is an astonishing reminder how much work goes into every sip of such a high quality wine specialty.
Premium Specialty Dessert Wine
The traditional winemaking techniques used to make Tokaji Aszu reach back hundreds of years. Once the Babits Tokaji Aszu is made, there is another 2 year barrel ageing in Oak barrels, that will complete this wine. This process is responsible for its secondary ageing. Therefore, result in a more velvety, silky, smooth character to the wine. It rounds off the edges of the wine in a masterful way.
Clear, light amber hue, all-embracing muscat aromas with a touch of floral rose, juicy grapes & honey & herbs. Delicious, full mouthfeel, pleasant sweetness – acidity balance. Rich, luscious and unctuous palate & it has a flavoursome, long finish.
It is most enjoyable to consume around 10-12 C. We recommend this wine for special occasions.
