Climate: sheltered from wind
Soil: volcanic rock (andesite-rhyolite-tuff) covered by loess and sand
Grape varieties, wines:
- Müller-Thurgau – fragrant, light, soft
- Italian Riesling – dry, fresh acidic
- Muscat Ottonel – high alcohol content, fragrant, high sugar degree
- Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch)
- Zweigelt
In the largest hill and mountain wine region good quality white wine is produced. The hill-sides are sheltered from the north wind by the mountain chain of the Mátra and most of the vine-territories can be found amidst forests.
