Area: 28020 hectares
Climate: little precipitation. Hot, sunny summer and dry winter
Soil: mainly sand, loess

Grape varieties, wines:

• Ezerjó (Thousand goods), Kövidinka, Aranysárfehér – mild wines with high sugar and alcohol contents
• Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch)  – fine, spicy and light. Kadarka – ruby red, spicy fragrance, full of aroma

The largest wine region of the country is to be found on the Great Hungarian Plain (Alföld) with its sandy soil. A part of the vine was planted here in order to bind the wind-blown sand. The wine grown on the sandy soil of this region is known as the wine of the weekdays. The acids of the wines of the plain are milder than of those grown on hills.
